Nursing Aid Job Description

Becoming a nurse is not always an easy thing to do. It requires anywhere from a few months to years to become the type of nurse that you would like to be. After the schooling is over you will still have to endure the grueling hours and non stop walking and paperwork that comes with the job description.

To start off with you could try to become a nurses’ aid. This is also a physically demanding job – but it will help to provide you with an insight as to what the nurse has to do and how you will be able to connect to the patient’s that you see. As an aid you will be working under the strict supervision of the entire nursing staff.

In this job it will be your responsibility to bathe, dress, and feed the various patients that you have. You will need to be strong enough to help them in and out of bed as needed and to help them to the bathroom. It is also important for you to know how to take vital signs, change the linens on the bed, and tell the nurses when the condition of the patient is different.

Although you might not have the schooling and experience that the other nurses have your job will be very important. It is up to you to do the things that they do not always have the time to do. Remember that nurses are the assistants to doctors and will constantly trying to administer medication, perform exams, and update paperwork.

As an aid you will constantly be running to and from patients. That also means that you will have to do the work that some of us do not care too much for. Like cleaning out the bedpans. You will get paid around $24,000 a year and you can train for a few months at your community college.
