Home Health Nurse Job Description

There are some people who want to become a nurse without having to deal with the annoyance of working inside of a health care facility. If you would like a job that is more flexible than you should consider becoming a home health nurse. These are nursing professionals that will provide care for disabled or elderly people in the convenience of their home. These nurses might visit the home for a few hours a week or for everyday.

Personal Care

As a home health nurse it is your job to help the patient with every day tasks including bathing and grooming and giving out medication. They must also help the patient move from one room in the home to the other and have access to their charts. That also means they must update the charts with recent vital signs.

Other Services

You will also be able to help the patient in other ways. Some might need help in exercising their limbs to keep them from becoming stiff and useless. You might also have to replace bandages, provide massages, and maintain artificial limbs. These services are usually done by the family and you might only have to do it on an occasional basis.

Skills

It is important to have a few skills that will help to provide you with more experience. This will include having sympathy for your patients when they are in pain and understanding the needs that they have. People skills is something that you need to have and that will help the patient feel comfortable.

Make sure you know the proper way to keep a report of everything that you are doing for the patient. This report should include what they are eating, how they are feeling, and write down any problem that have happened. You should also have an understanding of how to treat any conditions or infections that they might be suffering from.
